was talking on msn with zt about photography. cos i emailed mr hong my application letter.
then zt was saying she felt photography was mechenical, and a photographer was like a car mechanic. using the right tools and 'skills', you'll get good photos. like a D/SLR, edit with photoshop, vignetting, HDR, film, you'll still get the effects you desired in the end.
but i dont think it's that simple. you dont feel the satisfaction you get when you take a picture with a digicam, or any cam, a holga, a film cam, right? if you really have the passion for photography, editing it makes no difference, but it only makes me feel fake.
think the only problem now is the tools i have. with only a digicam (i'm not implying anyth cos i really love my Mr Pixie :D), and with such a small place like Singapore with not much beautiful sceneries (the whole place is practically a booming city), no different seasons (the closest i've ever got was a red sunset), you'll have to squeeze your brain cells just to get a good picture (deciding on the mood and stuff).
a good photographer won't need to edit his photos, won't need expensive cameras, but a few touch-ups will be just fine (: photoshop for vignetting is great, but what's fabulouser are the pics taken with a holga!
everything's so complicated, you could say it all boils down to nothing. take football for instance. it's just several men running after a ball and kicking it when they get the chance to. things just blow up to become a sport, then they add in gambling, and then the media just blows it up. football stars, FIFA WORLD CUP, whatever. but isn't it still the same, same as photography, same as any other passion or hobby people have?
everything has no use, because we all die. but the main thing is to enjoy your passion for something, cause it's the attitude that matters. but nothing will be in vain after we pursue our passion and reach our goals. (:
this way, everything has no use but some will be of more use than others. (:
